Mark Brotherton
ARTIST PORTFOLIO
I start by pouring acrylic medium in a loosely controlled manner onto a primed canvas. I then apply an over-all base color. Next, invented graphical images are layered throughout the work; perhaps resembling maps, schematics, technical drawings, or communication systems. The paintings develop over time. I like to play with assumptions that we have about reality and to rejoice in creative energy. I use systems to suggest the seemingly limitlessness of technology, and to question our belief in its ability to fix our future and to elevate us in life. The end result is often an ambiguous reference to human potential and an exploration of creative imagination.
