NOTES.

SHANE ALLISON is the author of four chapbooks of poetry and has had poems published in MIPO, OUTSIDER INK, OUT OF ORDER, VELVET MAFIA, SUSPECT THOUGHTS, CHIRON REVIEW, LIT VISION, COAL CITY REVIEW, MISSISSIPPI REVIEW and many others. He is friends with poet, Jarret Keene.

A.D. BELLER was born in Portland, Oregon in 1976.  He currently lives in London.

ANNE BOYER lives in central Iowa.  Her work may be found in TYPO, DENVER QUARTERLY, DIAGRAM, KONUNDRUM ENGINE, and other journals.

TIM BRADFORD’s poetry has most recently appeared in BOMBAY GIN, POEMS & PLAYS, TERMINUS and RUNES. He is the author of the introductory text for Sadhus, a photography book on the ascetics of South Asia published by Cuerpos Pintados in 2003. His novella-in-progress, based on the history of the Vélodrome d’Hiver in Paris, has garnered the support of the Koret Foundation’s Young Writer on Jewish Themes Award for 2004-2005.

MARC BROTHERTON lives & works in New York City.

STONEY BROWN was not born but was raised/grew up/is a resident of Natchitoches LA, 71457.  He drives a Ford Escort. He is a firm believer in rock.  He is friends with a dog named Roux.

ONI BUCHANAN has an MM in piano performance from the New England  Conservatory of Music and an MFA in poetry from the Iowa Writers' Workshop. Her first poetry book, WHAT ANIMAL, was published by the University of Georgia Press in October 2003. She has new poems forthcoming in CONDUIT, COLUMBIA POETRY REVIEW, LA PETITE ZINE, COLUMBIA: A JOURNAL OF LITERATURE & ART, VERSE MAGAZINE, and LIT, and has had work appear in many journals and several anthologies, including the Best American Poetry 2004. BRUCE COVEY is Adjunct Lecturer of Creative Writing at Emory University and author of three collections of poetry—THE GREEK GODS AS TELEPHONE WIRES, TEN PINS, TEN FRAMES and GLASS IS REALLY A LIQUID (forthcoming, Summer 2006)—all from Front Room Publishers.  His recent work also appears or is forthcoming in 26, BOMBAY GIN, JACKET, EXPLOSIVE MAGAZINE, POOL, BIG BRIDGE, CROSSCONNECT, NO TELL MOTEL, GUTCULT, LA PETITE ZINE and other journals.

ELIZABETH DOWNS lives and performs various acts of menial labor in  Los Angeles. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in EVENT, ANTIOCH REVIEW, and CHATTAHOOCHEE REVIEW.

NOAH FALCK lives in Dayton, Ohio, where he currently teaches fourth graders how to read.  His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in GOOD FOOT, BOOG CITY, CAN WE HAVE OUR BALL BACK, & elsewhere.

JOSH HANSON is a graduate of the University of Montana Writing Program and currently lives in Missoula, Montana with his wife and two daughters. Recently, his manuscript was named as a finalist in the first annual THREE CANDLES PRESS book prize, and his work has appeared or is forthcoming in DIAGRAM, 42OPUS, SOFTBLOW, PLAINSONGS, STIRRING, THREE CANDLES, ROCK SALT PLUM, GINBENDER, MEGAERA, and others.  He is the editor of EUCALYPTUS, a new online journal.

MATT HART is a co-founder and editor of FORKLIFT OHIO: A JOURNAL OF POETRY, COOKING, & LIGHT INDUSTRIAL SAFETY.  His work has appeared or is forthcoming in THE BUTCHER SHOP, LUNGFULL! and PLOUGHSHARES, among other journals , and can be seen online in DIAGRAM, KONUNDRUM ENGINE LITERARY REVIEW, and OCTOPUS.   A chapbook of his work, REVELATED, was recently published by Hollyridge Press, and his first book, WHO’S WHO VIVID, is forthcoming from Slope Editions.   He teaches at the Art Academy of Cincinnati.

JENNIFER MICHAEL HECHT’s new book, FUNNY, won the University of Wisconsin Press 2005 Felix Pollak Poetry Prize. Her THE NEXT ANCIENT WORLD won the Poetry Society of America's 2002 Norma Farber First Book Award.  Hecht is also the author of DOUBT: A HISTORY (HarperCollins) and THE END OF THE SOUL (Columbia University), winner of the Phi Beta Kappa Society's 2004 Ralph Waldo Emerson Award.  Her verse and reviews appear in POETRY, MS. MAGAGZINE, THE BEST AMERICAN POETRY 1999 and 2006, THE NEW YORK TIMES, THE WASHINGTON POST and THE AMERICAN SCHOLAR.

MATTHEW HENRIKSEN lives in Brooklyn and teaches at Roberto Clemente Middle School in Harlem.  His poems appear (or will appear) in 42OPUS, DIRT, FASCICLE, HORSE LESS REVIEW, INDIANA REVIEW, OCTOPUS, STORYSOUTH and THE TINY.  He co-edits TYPO and curates the Burning Chair Reading Series.

WILLIAM HEYEN has published more than twenty books including LONG ISLAND LIGHT, CRAZY HORSE IN STILLNESS, LORD DRAGONFLY: FIVE SEQUENCES and SHOAH TRAIN, which was nominated for the National Book Award.  His first book, DEPTH OF FIELD (1970), has recently been re-released by Carnegie Mellon.  He is Professor of English/Poet in Residence Emeritus at SUNY Brockport.

JNANA HODSON says that publication of his new novel, ASHRAM: ADVENTURES ON A YOGA FARM (ebook from PulpBits.com), has him feeling he’s come full circle through the night. He lives in the Seacoast Region of New Hampshire.

ERIKA HOWSARE holds an MFA in Literary Arts from Brown University. She currently lives and teaches in Esmont, Virginia; she is also co-editor of the HOSRE LESS REVIEW.

A. VAN JORDAN is a recipient of a Whiting Writers Award. His first book, RISE (Tia Chucha , 2001), won the PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Award. His second book, M-A-C-N-O-L-I-A (W.W. Norton, 2004) won an Anisfield-Wolf Book Award and this year he received a Pushcart Prize.  Jordan teaches creative writing on faculty at the University of Texas at Austin and the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College.

KIRSTEN KASCHOCK’s first book of poetry, UNFATHOMS, is available from Slope Editions.  She is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Georgia.  Kirsten holds an M.F.A. in poetry from Syracuse University, and another in choreography from the University of Iowa.   She has recently had work in the following journals:  AMERICAN LETTERS & COMMENTARY, BARROW STREET, DIAGRAM, DENVER QUARTERLY, GULF COAST, and OCTOPUS, among others.

HANK LAZER has published twelve books of poems. His most recent is THE NEW SPIRIT (Singing Horse Press, 2005), a nominee for the Pulitzer Prize, which is reviewed by Lissa Wolsak in this issue of H_NGM_N.  Other recent work by & about Lazer can be found in GOLDEN HANDCUFFS REVIEW & ERATIO.  Other recent books of poems by Lazer are ELEGIES & VACATIONS (Salt Publishing, 2004) & DAYS (Lavender Ink. 2002).

ALEX LEMON’s poems have appeared or are forthcoming in TIN HOUSE, AGNI, BLACK WARRIOR REVIEW, PLEIADES, DENVER QUARTERLY, SWINK and numerous other literary journals. In 2005 he was awarded a literature fellowship in poetry from the National Endowment for the Arts. Currently, he lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota and teaches at Macalester College.

JON LEON is wondering why everything is "All Messed Up," and he is working on a major poem titled "Modern War" which will address this issue.  He lives in Atlanta where he assembles the poetry magazine WHEREVER WE PUT OUR HATS.

MATT MADDEN started self-publishing minicomics while living in Ann Arbor, MI in the early 90s.  His first graphic novel was BLACK CANDY, with Black Eye Books in 1998. His last graphic novel, ODDS OFF, was published by Highwater Books in 2001. Madden was recently invited to be the American correspondent of OuBaPo, the French experimental comics group and he is currently working on several new projects in many of which will appear in A FINE MESS, his current bi-annual series published by Alternative Comics.

SARAH MANGOLD received a BA in English literature from the University of Oklahoma and an MFA in creative writing from San Francisco State University. Her first book, HOUSEHOLD MECHANICS (New Issues, 2002) was selected by C. D. Wright for the New Issue Poetry Prize.  Other books include two chapbooks, BLOOD SUBSTITUTES (Potes & Poets Press, 1998) and BOXER REBELLION (gong, 2004).  She is the recipient of an Individual Artist Award from the Seattle arts Commission and a MacDowell Colony fellowship. She lives in Seattle and publishes/edits BIRD DOG, a journal of innovative writing and art (www.birddogmagazine.com). Recent work appears/forthcoming in TRAVERSE, COLORADO REVIEW, and the CHICAGO REVIEW.

CLAY MATTHEWS reviews Frank Matagrano's new book in this issue of H_NGM_N.  Other poems are recently in NO TELL MOTEL, SPORK, DIAGAM, HORSE LESS REVIEW, and forthcoming in THE TINY and BEST NEW POETS 2005.  Later this month, H_NGM_N B_ _ KS will release his chapbook MUFFLER.

ANTHONY MCCANN grew up in the upper Hudson Valley of New York State. He has since studied and/or worked in the states of Illinois, New Hampshire, Vermont, Texas, Wisconsin, Iowa and Washington. He has also lived and worked in the former Czechoslovakia, in South Korea and in Nicaragua. Currently he lives with his wife in Brooklyn, New York where he teaches English as Second Language. A chapbook of his poems, IN PRAISE OF REASON, was published by Pine Press and Vario Burnos of Lithuania where he also was a guest at the Druskininkai Poetic Fall international poetry festival in 2003. His first book, FATHER OF NOISE, was published by Fence Books in conjunction with Saturnalia Books in 2003. In April 2006 Wave Books (formerly Verse Press) will release his new book, MOONGARDEN.

MATTHEW MULDER has published one poetry chapbook—LATE NIGHT WRITING (Wasteland Press, 2004) and is a senior contributing writer for THE INDIE. He works as a graphic designer and writer in Asheville, North Carolina.

GINA MYERS lives in Brooklyn where she co-edits THE TINY with Gabriella Torres.  Recent poems have appeared or are forthcoming in CARVE, MAGAZINE CYPRESS, NO TELL MOTEL and UNPLEASANT EVENT SCHEDULE.

DANIEL NESTER is the author of GOD SAVE MY QUEEN (Soft Skull Press, 2003) and GOD SAVE MY QUEEN II (2004), both collections on his obsession with the rock band Queen.  His creative work has appeared in JUBILAT, CRAZYHORSE, OPEN CITY and BEST AMERICAN POETRY 2003, among other places; he also writes for POETS & WRITERS, TIME OUT NEW YORK and BOOKSLUT. He publishes and edits the online journal UNPLESANT EVENT SCHEDULE and is Assistant Web Editor for Sestinas for MCSWEENEY’S. He is an assistant professor of English at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY.

ETHAN PAQUIN’s third book is THE VIOLENCE (Ahsahta Press, 2005).  He lives in Buffalo, NY.

THE PINES reside in Manhattan and Montana. They have been releasing poems, books, and music under various names since 1992.

KATE SCHAPIRA lives, writes and teaches in Providence, RI, where she is an MFA candidate at Brown University.  Her work has appeared in a number of print and online journals; she also enjoys making chapbooks and leaving them around for people to find.  She’s currently working on a serial story, which appears weekly at different outdoor locations around Providence, and a cycle of poems and essays about apartments.

RACHEL M SIMON’s work has appeared recently or is forthcoming from NORTH AMERICAN REVIEW, BLACK ROCK & SAGE, FORKLIFT, OHIO, and FUGUE.  She was a finalist this year for the Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets, the Arts & Letters Prize, the Inkwell Prize, and the Fugue Poetry Prize.  She likes her foods fried and her desserts chocolate.

STEVE TIMM has had recent work in ANTENNAE, GAM, VOLT, NOTRE DAME REVIEW, SLEEPINGFISH, and WORD/FOR WORD.  A chapbook, AVERRAGE, was published by Answer Tag Home Press in 2004. A video of him performing a "sound  poem" was shown at the 2004 Wisconsin Film Festival. He teaches English as a second language at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

JEN TYNES lives in Providence, Rhode Island and edits HORSE LESS PRESS. Her poems have recently appeared or are forthcoming in JUBILAT, NO TELL MOTEL, DIAGRAM and CUTBANK. Her first full-length collection of poetry will be available from Red Morning Press in early 2006.

JAMES WAGNER is the author of THE FALSE SUN RECORDINGS (3rd bed, 2003). Other pieces from TRILCE have appeared or will appear in ANTENNAE, BATHHOUSE MAGAZINE, BLAZEVOX, BRIDGE, EFFING MAGAZINE, GAM, PARAKEET, SHAMPOO, SLEEPINGFISH & TYPO.

LISSA WOLSAK lives in Vancouver, B. C., where she works as an energy/thought-field therapist as well as a goldsmith. She is the author of several long poem sequences: "Pen Chants or nth or 12 spirit-like impermanences" from ROOF BOOKS; "The Garcia Family Co-Mercy" from TSUNAMI and "A Defence of Being", first ana, from SPANNER, UK, and second ana, from WILD HONEY PRESS, Ireland. "SQUEEZED LIGHT: Collected Works 1994 - 2005" is forthcoming from STATION HILL PRESS/BARRYTOWN in November, 2005.
